The Legendary Junkmaster

Chapter 57: Nest (2)

Jason could not help but continue to curse away to himself. It had taken some time to bring all of the sacks into the workshop under the greedy eyes of his neighbours. He felt like a second target had been painted directly on his back!

Hours had passed since then, but he was still furious. What did Dani's father think about when he decided to leave him that amount of cash! Did he expect Jason to come up with some kind of masterpiece for Dani? Even if he wanted to, he still lacked in plenty of areas right now!

'Maybe he's expecting me to make several sets as time goes on and I gain more experience?' It had taken Jason quite a bit of time to calm down so that he could think clearly about it. This conclusion seemed to make more sense.

It was never a bad idea to invest in someone like Jason and stay on their good side. It also fit perfectly with Wraith asking him to take care of Dani. Perhaps he was expecting something more from him. 'I doubt that.' Jason chuckled to himself as he had that thought.

However, before he knew it, his face had turned bright red as he thought about the two kisses Dani had planted on him. 'No, she was definitely just messing around! I can't let myself get distracted.'

Jason shook those fantasies from his mind and returned his attention to the now completed new Multi-Tool. However, Syssie could not stop herself from laughing in the corner. She had obviously been listening in on his minor delusions!

"What are you laughing at?" Jason sounded annoyed as he glared at her. She had fallen to the floor in her fit of laughter, and her dress had crept up quite a bit. Of course, it just so happened to stop at a point that made sure nothing could be seen.

"Oh, it's nothing. I just think you should spend more time thinking of Dani as a woman rather than your friend." Syssie flashed a broad, knowing grin towards him.

"You're just as bad as she is!" Jason scoffed as he chose to ignore that comment. "Now, are you going to give me an evaluation on this?"

Syssie sighed at how hopelessly clueless Jason was before straightening herself out. Her expression turned serious as she analysed the new item. It actually took her a few minutes before she finally said something.

"Evaluation… E Rank utility item suitable for Novices that uses electrical power to display a greater force than its mechanical counterpart. The strength required to wield it efficiently would be 0. Value estimated at forty copper credits." Syssie nodded along with each critique she gave. "Since it's a variation of an existing creation, you have received 4 PP as a reward. I'll just store it as MT-E: 001."

Jason sighed internally. He had once again broken into the E rank but failed to get anything significant because he had created a weaker version first. 'Should I be trying to create the best version first and wormy way backwards from there?'

It was not a bad thought as it would maximise his gains. However, for that, he had to have the right skills in place. Which needed PP to be bought. Which just brought him right back to square one. 'I need to find a good balance.'

As Jason took the MT-E in hand, he studied his own craftsmanship. It definitely looked better than the original, even if it seemed slightly heavier. He moved his finger over the trigger that he had built into it to control the electrical current. As Jason pulled the trigger, a high-speed whirring noise emerged from the MT-E.

Jason revealed a broad grin at that noise. The only uncertainty was for how long the batteries would last. Jason frowned as he pressed a button on the side of the MT-E and pulled the trigger again. This time the drill bit spun in the opposite direction at high speed. 'I was worried for a moment there whether that would work or not.'

As Jason's eyes scanned the item, he suddenly thought of a few more improvements that could be made to it. It mostly involved dampening the vibrations it generated to stop itself from shaking its internal components loose. 'Well, that's something I can fix another time.'

At that point, Harry poked his head into the workshop with a curious expression on his face. "What was that noise just now?"

Jason grinned as he looked at Harry's bright eyes before he remembered that he literals had a ton of credits sitting around in sacks. He had to get Harry to focus on him right away! Otherwise, he was sure that there would be a mysterious break-in!

Harry's eyes swivelled to look at the MT-E in Jason's hand as he pulled the trigger again. "You mean this?"

Harry pounced towards him in excitement as he stared at the item! He recognised it as basically being the Multi-Tool that he was used to! However, it obviously worked on something else. "How powerful is it?"

Harry was practically salivating as he studied the upgraded item like it was his lover. This was only natural since Harry's thoughts had gone back to the Vaulted chamber he had kept secret for so long.

"Hm, it should be able to produce around ten times the amount of power that your one can put out. Why? Do you want one?" Jason waved the MT-E in front of Harry's eyes which followed it.

However, Harry paused for a moment as he seemed to consider something. A complicated look crossed his face as if he was struggling with something, which he actually was. He wanted this item to explore the hidden treasure that he had uncovered long ago. However, something was now telling him that it would be stupid to go there without his grandson.

After all, Jason seemed to be able to pick out things that actually had value even though they looked like junk. It would be a waste not to take him! However, that would also mean having to split the profits. So he was trying to guess if he would get more by taking him or not.

"Jason… There's something I want to talk to you about…"
