Villain Is Bodyguard of Heroine’s Poisonous Stepmother

Chapter 76: Shouldnt It Be Reasonable for Ye Chen to Apologize?

“Ye Chen, rest assured, as the old man of the Wang family, I still have some influence. That youngster Luo will certainly give me face,” the patriarch of the Wang family assured Ye Chen.

He was a contemporary of Luo Mingde’s father and thus a senior to Luo Mingde, confident that Luo would respect his intervention.

“Then I must trouble the elder,” Ye Chen gratefully replied.

When he first encountered the elder Wang yesterday, he had initially intended to ignore him, but on a whim, he decided to save him, unaware of the old man’s significant background.

This intervention luckily resolved his current predicament, for otherwise, Ye Chen would have been forced to leave not only Magic City but possibly the country, despite his capabilities.

“Brother Ye, you saved my father’s life. If you have any troubles, feel free to come to me,” said Wang Hong, the patriarch’s son and the current head of the Wang family.

Although the elder Wang had retired from the forefront, he remained the most authoritative figure in the family.

“I also share a certain relationship with Luo Mingde, and his son Luo Zixuan is not in grave danger. My father and I stepping in to ask Luo Mingde to let this matter go without pursuit shouldn’t be a problem at all,” Wang Hong confidently believed that they could persuade Luo Mingde to relent.

“Sir, Luo Mingde has arrived, and he’s brought a young man with him, not from the Luo family,” the butler informed Wang Hong at that moment.

“Let’s go out and take a look,” Wang Hong decided.

While the elder Wang certainly didn’t need to greet them personally, Wang Hong felt it necessary to show due respect to Luo Mingde, given the circumstances.

Ye Chen naturally followed Wang Hong as they walked out.

When Luo Mingde caught sight of Ye Chen, a flash of icy coldness passed through his eyes.

At that moment, Ye Chen’s face was also grim, barely containing his murderous intent upon unexpectedly seeing Chen Luo there.

“Surprised to see me, Ye Chen?” Chen Luo approached with a light smile.

“Why are you here?” Ye Chen asked coldly, struggling to suppress his urge to act on his evident grudge against Chen Luo.

It was clear to anyone present that there was enmity between Ye Chen and Chen Luo.

“And who might this be?” Wang Hong glanced at Chen Luo, noting his striking appearance and restrained aura.

The smile on Chen Luo’s lips seemed amiable enough, yet Wang Hong felt an inexplicable dislike, perhaps due to Ye Chen. Since Ye Chen was their family’s benefactor, Wang Hong naturally wouldn’t harbor good feelings towards Chen Luo.

“This is my son’s friend, Chen Luo. I invited him to join me at the banquet. I trust you have no objections?” Luo Mingde spoke to Wang Hong without any pleasantries, ready to face his fury for seeking reconciliation for his son’s assailant.

“It’s your prerogative whom you bring to the banquet, Luo Mingde. Of course, I have no objections. Let’s go; my father is waiting,” Wang Hong withdrew his gaze from Chen Luo, who was not their primary concern.

Their main objective was to find a way to persuade Luo Mingde to drop his pursuit of Ye Chen.

“Hmph,” Luo Mingde snorted coldly at Ye Chen and then walked ahead.

Ye Chen’s face turned sour at Luo Mingde’s snub, a cold gleam flickering in his eyes. Ye Chen’s character couldn’t tolerate the slightest slight, any hint of disrespect was an affront to him, showcasing his self-centered nature.

Upon entering the Wang family’s living room, Chen Luo’s gaze fixed on the elderly man in his seventies seated in the place of honor. The old man appeared ordinary but possessed piercing, sharp eyes that seemed to see through people.

“Old Master Wang, you’re looking well,” Luo Mingde offered a polite remark.

“Old age has its toll. My energy isn’t what it used to be. How is your father doing?” Old Master Wang, a friend and also a rival of Luo Mingde’s father from their younger days, responded. They had had their fair share of struggles.

“My father is well,” Luo Mingde replied calmly before cutting to the chase. “Old Master Wang, is your family determined to protect Ye Chen?”

Old Master Wang’s brows furrowed at Luo Mingde’s direct approach, sensing the difficulty in reaching a reconciliation.

“You must be aware that Ye Chen saved my life. I hold him in high regard. It’s natural for young people to have conflicts. Although Ye Chen was a bit too forceful, my family is willing to compensate on his behalf,” he stated his position clearly.

He helped Ye Chen not only because of the life-saving favor but also due to his great admiration for him. His discerning eyes saw Ye Chen as a dragon in shallow waters, bound to soar to the skies in the future.

Old Master Wang’s judgment was indeed accurate. Under normal circumstances, Ye Chen would indeed rise to great heights, potentially helping the Wang family in advancing further.

“I almost lost my son, and you think it’s just a matter of being a bit too forceful?” Luo Mingde’s voice carried a note of anger.

His son had almost died, yet Old Master Wang seemed to downplay the severity.

“Brother Luo, my father has personally intervened. Could you please give my family’s elder some respect?” Wang Hong interjected.

“Respect should be mutual. You ask Luo Mingde to give face, but have you given Luo Mingde any face?” Chen Luo spoke calmly.

“Asking Ye Chen to apologize for his excessive actions doesn’t seem unreasonable. But from his demeanor, it doesn’t look like he thinks he’s in the wrong at all,” Chen Luo added, noting Ye Chen’s darkened face.

Indeed, Ye Chen never thought he was wrong in beating Luo Zixuan. It was Luo Zixuan’s own doing, as he dared to covet Xiao Qingshan. Moreover, Luo Zixuan showed up at the wrong time, just as Ye Chen learned that Chen Luo had annihilated his men, fueling his anger.

Luo Mingde glanced at Ye Chen, indeed seeing no sign of remorse on his face.

“Old Master Wang, if you think I am disrespecting you, I need an explanation for my son’s injuries,” Luo Mingde stated firmly. “If the Wang family insists on protecting Ye Chen, then don’t blame me for being discourteous.”

Luo’s family was no weaker than the Wangs and didn’t need to bow to them, although a real fight would benefit neither side.

“Are you truly unwilling to give this old man face, Mingde?” Old Master Wang’s expression soured.

Initially, he was confident that Luo Mingde would give in to his seniority, and the Wang family was even prepared to compensate the Luos with a considerable sum.

“Our family is willing to forego a profit of one billion as compensation,” Wang Hong directly proposed to Luo Mingde.

Luo Mingde burst into laughter, evidently angered into amusement.

“Do you think the Luo family is in need of that one billion?”

For others, a billion might be a large sum, but for the Luo family, it was negligible. A single antique from their collection could easily exceed that value.

Wang Hong’s face turned red at Luo Mingde’s mockery.

“You give me face in words but look down on me in actions. Let me be clear, I will never let Ye Chen off the hook.”

“You think I fear the Luo family?”

Ye Chen, now agitated, believed they thought they could manipulate him at will. Pushed to the brink, he was capable of causing a bloodbath in the Luo family, though such actions would mean he could no longer stay in the country. But if really pressed, Ye Chen was prepared to take drastic actions against the Luo family.
