Chapter 34: Private Tutor

Kazuki did not dwell on the resurrection of Kubo Sabae’s father. He continued to ask a few questions, but Kubo Sabae’s answers made him furrow his brows slightly.

From the questioning, it seemed that Kubo Sabae really did not come into contact with anything weird.

Of course, there was still a limit to conversation. Perhaps Kubo Sabae did in fact accidentally touch something without even knowing it himself.

Kazuki said without giving up, “Did you realize any sort of strange behavior from the people around you?”

Kubo Sabae wanted to ask Kazuki why he had taken such a keen interest in him, but he kept it in and did not voice out his thoughts. He thought for a while and said, “Recently, my old man’s complexion has been worsening day by day, he’s been looking extremely worn-out. Not sure if it’s because he’s keeping a mistress out there.” While speaking, he let out a cold laugh. “It’ll be best if he dies on the belly of a woman!”

Kazuki did not ask Kubo Sabae why he hated his father so much. Every family had skeletons in their closets, and every family had their own problems. Without understanding the circumstances, he naturally had no right to comment.

Moreover, Kazuki had no interest in Kubo Sabae’s family matters. However, the situation of Kubo Sabae’s father, interested him, “When did this condition start to occur?”

“Around a month ago, I guess…” Kubo Sabae said inadvertently, “Now that I think of it, I think that that wooden carving was also gifted to my old man a month ago. I heard it was an antique, it’s such a shame that I couldn’t get my hands on it.”

It was quite apparent that Kubo Sabae was still hung up over the wooden carving. His living expenses were low, but he spent a lot. If he could have stolen the wood carving, he would have been able to sell it for a lot of money.

Wooden carving?!

Kazuki recalled that Kubo Sabae had mentioned that he had stolen the wooden carving three days ago, which meant that he had at least touched it. Furthermore, Kubo Sabae’s father’s complexion had worsened from this month onward. Coincidentally, the wooden carving was also received from someone a month ago.

The problem was already fairly obvious.

Afterward, Kazuki asked him to tell him all the locations he had been to recently. Although he was 90% sure that the problem came from the wooden carving Kubo Sabae had mentioned, there were still a few places which he had to visit personally.

Coincidentally, tomorrow was a weekend, meaning that he would have plenty of time to look into the places visited by Kubo Sabae.

Mentally taking note of the information given, he did not ask any more questions. Kubo Sabae looked very confused, but Kazuki had no plans to answer any of his queries.

“Get your father to come over to the school on Monday.”

“Huh?” Kubo Sabae was stunned. He said in a panic, “I’ve already turned over a new leaf, why do I still need to call my parents over?”

“Don’t panic,” Kazuki Kimura assured him. “It’s not about you, I just want to talk to your father about something.”

“What is there to talk about? There’s no way I’m letting that fella come to school!” Kubo Sabae said menacingly, “If the school insists on calling my parents over, I’ll drop out.”

“Drop out?” Kazuki let out a cold laugh, “That’ll work as well. Get your father to come to school on Monday to perform the withdrawal procedures.”

Upon hearing his words, Kubo Sabae’s face darkened.

Seeing this, Kazuki said calmly, “Of course, if you insist on not letting your father come to school, I’ll respect your decision. However, I remember you’re from Class Three of freshman year… and if I remember correctly, the class teacher in charge of Class Three of freshman year is Ms.Inoue. I’ll speak to Ms. Inoue later about visiting your home this weekend. After all, you didn’t apply for a leave of absence after school started but only came after one whole week. This is still a serious matter.”

Kubo Sabae’s mouth twitched, and just like a deflated balloon, he said defeatedly, “I understand, but I need to know what you plan to do, right?”

“Ask your father later on.” Kazuki didn’t reply to Kubo Sabae’s question, he merely glanced at the time, “Make sure your father comes dressed in clean clothes on Monday.”

After speaking, he did not entertain Kubo Sabae any longer, neither did he care about what he thought. It had been 10 minutes since class ended and he still had an appointment with Ms. Sakura.

In no time, Kazuki had arrived at the teacher’s office. As he walked in, a group of teachers greeted him with smiles as Kazuki responded amicably as well.

“You’re here.” Sakura Haruko pulled a chair over for Kazuki and passed a stack of exam papers on the table to him. “Help me a bit with the marking.”

Kazuki did not reject her request as he sat down on the chair and took a look at the papers. It was a mathematics test. Sakura Haruko had already given the student from Class Five of the sophomore year a test, even though it had not yet been a week since school had started.

Before Kazuki’s arrival, Sakura Haruko had already marked some of the papers, so there were only around 20 papers left which was not considered much. Kazuki went through the test papers quickly since he had just entered the sophomore year, and these questions were all for the freshmen. This was not a problem for him as hard work was bound to pay off.

In just less than 10 minutes, he had finished marking all the papers.

Seeing this, Sakura Haruko took over the papers and sifted through them. After a few minutes, she said with approval, “Not bad, it looks like you haven’t fallen behind in your studies, Kazuki.”

Doing and marking the papers were two different things, and the same went for the difficulty of the two tasks. The fact that Kazuki could finish marking around 20 test papers in less than 10 minutes without making any mistakes proved his level of knowledge.

“The job that I’m introducing to you is a private tutor position,” said Sakura Haruko while tidying up the desk. “With your level, being their private tutor should be a piece of cake.”

Private tutor?

Kazuki was delighted. No matter whether it was in Huaxia or Japan, the pay given to private tutors was not bad.

Private tutors usually charge by the hour. However, his delight was short-lived. After all, he was still just a student and not a professional teacher. Moreover, Ms Sakura only helped with recommending him, it was still hard to say whether or not the parents would accept him.

While thinking, Kazuki had also calmed down.

Both of them soon arrived at the principal’s office, and Sakura Haruko knocked on the door softly.

“Please come in.” As Endo Etomi saw the two people who walked in, he stood up and joked in a friendly manner, “Sakura Sensei, why did you bring Kazuki over? Could it be that you’re not satisfied with the tutoring salary, so you’ve brought him over to discuss the matter?”

Kazuki was helpless as Endo Etomi did not have much of a dignified aura. He was no different from a friendly old man who liked to crack jokes.

“Principal, I came this time to inform you that I might not be able to take on this private tutoring job.” Sakura Haruko smiled and added, “However, I think Kazuki will be able to take on this job, so I’m recommending him.”

Endo Etomi went blank for a moment, “How come?”

“A friend of mine opened a tuition class and has yet to hire enough teachers, so I have to give her a hand,” said Sakura Haruko helplessly. “I’m afraid I have no choice but to let go of this job.”

Endo Etomi gave a bitter smile as he looked at Kazuki and said, “Actually… when Director Furuhashi asked me to look for a private tutor for his daughters, you were the first person who came to mind, Kazuki. However, Mr. Furuhashi had a condition for the private tutor to be a female.”

Kazuki nodded. He somehow did not feel disappointed and said, “Then, I’ll take my leave.”

“Uh… hold on, it’s not that there’s no hope for you.” Endo Etomi laughed and said, “You too know that Sakura Kyu Academy has very few female teachers. Now that Ms. Sakura has rejected the offer, I’ll contact Director Furuhashi now to discuss the matter with him and see how this goes.”

Seeing that Principal Endo was going to make the call, Sakura Haruko excused herself since her aim of recommending Kazuki had been reached. What came after this would be none of her business.

Kazuki accompanied Sakura Haruko to the door. After thanking her, he sat down on the couch and silently waited while the principal made the phone call.

According to the principal however, this matter was a request from someone known as Director Furuhashi.

If the surname were Furuhashi, it would most probably be the quadruplets.
