Shepherding Humanity

Chapter 63: An Uproar in the Real World

Urgently waiting online?

All players: "???"

At the moment, the players online were still excitedly discussing Future Skywhale’s mysterious disappearance.

He had promised to livestream everything, but then nothing happened.

Their best guess was that he had vanished for an entire day because he was too engrossed in exploring the new map and could not bring himself to stop.

Who knew that as soon as he reappeared, he started talking nonsense!

Akina’s Speedster: "More than a hundred years you say? Bossman, have you lost your mind? (?)"

Hands Off: "Seven witch wives? You’ve gone mad, bro! This is not an eroge! (Wrong genre!)"

Cerebral Bluff: "LOL! See! I told you so! The way this game’s been so far, the new map must be insanely hardcore. Guys, he’s gone crazy. Next challenger please! (For a more detailed prediction, click on my avatar to find my post from yesterday. And follow me! You won’t be disappointed!)"

Akina’s Speedster: "So that's why. I can sympathize. I still remember when I first entered this game. That prompt: "Please evolve your eyes" left me speechless. I thought I was going crazy! (??)."

I Love Learning: "As a newbie, I’m scared! How did a respectable technology whiz end up like this? Is it due to a distorted personality? A lack of morals? How hardcore is the new map?"

The forum buzzed with excitement as the players all took turns poking fun at Future Skywhale. After all, this so-called “casual sandbox game” was notorious for its hardcore difficulty.

Many of them called Future Skywhale crazy. What could have happened for him to turn out like this?

He was the tech whiz who was the second person to get an Achievement Award in the game, but now, after only a day, he was making all these nonsensical claims!

Future Skywale was speechless for a moment. After skimming through the posts in the forums, he realized that he had acted too hastily, and took a deep breath to calm himself.

"More than a hundred years have passed for me. Compared to my forty plus years of life on earth, the lifetime that I’ve spent in the other world feels much longer. I feel as if I’m actually the other world’s Emperor Grantham who has taken over the CEO of a tech company in the modern day."

He felt that the over one hundred years he’s lived as Grantham was the real him. After all, forty plus years spent in the modern world was far too short in comparison.

It was only natural that they wouldn’t believe him; after all, little more than a day has passed.

"But I have proof."

Grantham quickly posted a bunch of photos that he had taken.

The first picture he posted was from when he first set foot in the other world: in a lush forest filled with flowers, he was happily wandering around with his slime army.

The forum exploded.

"Wow, so this is the new map? The bossman and his Slime species are the first settlers?"

"He’s finally returned to normal."

Grantham ignored them and wordlessly posted several pictures in quick succession.

The second picture was in the streets before Elizabeth’s Coven.

There were countless beautiful witches with magic staves in their hands, merchants in gorgeous costumes, women holding children, lively fruit stalls, bustling shops, and even a Rose Witch riding an Arrah as it lumbered down the street.

"Oh? So this is a bustling street in the other world? It's so lively! Everything looks so exotic! So realistic! That mount is so big! There are even NPCs?"

"Whoa! Look at that pretty lady holding a staff!"

"How can this be? There are people inhabiting the new map! Bossman, start talking!"

"I’m drooling!"

Grantham remained silent: Hah! Who’s lost their mind now?

His silence further stoked everyone’s curiosity. Next, he posted an expansive bird's-eye view of the Kingdom of Babylon. The picture showed a magnificent cityscape with exquisitely beautiful architecture.

Everyone was left gaping in awe when they opened the picture.

The ancient city of magic was exotically beautiful, its sheer size and splendor overwhelming to the senses. The cityscape from "Assassin's Creed" was nothing compared to this!

"Now, it’s time for the main dish. Enjoy!" Grantham watched them drool and finally unleashed his killer move: he posted a picture of two little witches locked in battle. The sight of their flashy magic spells threw the entire forum into a frenzy.

"F*ck! F*ck!! These beautiful young ladies in witch robes are casting spells!"

"Bossman, we were wrong. Please say something! Don’t just post pictures! (??)"

"I’m shivering!!! Mom is now asking me why I’m kowtowing while playing this game. I’ve become obsessed, haven't I? (?)"

…..

"Who’s laughing now? You’re surprised with only this much? You haven’t seen anything yet!" Grantham smiled, and released a truly mind-blowing picture.

This was from the time when the Empress of Death Medusa visited the Kingdom of Babylon. In this dark scene, the "Flower of Death" hung in the sky, a gigantic rose the color of black blood. Lilith's strength was being tested, and it seemed as if the world was coming to an end.

It was a stunning scene of the Apocalypse.

"So scary! That young lady in the sky is so beautiful, is she a goddess?"

"Once that rose falls, won’t the entire city be destroyed?"

….

Everyone turned into bootlickers.

They desperately pleaded with Grantham, begging him to speak up: Don't just post pictures! Have mercy! Say something!

Grantham still had some regrets. It was a pity that live streaming and recording videos wasn’t possible, and he could only take screenshots. The visual effects of the videos would have been even more shocking.

"The woman in that scene is renowned as the “Absolute Empress who reigns over Death” Medusa." He did not plan to drag things out, he was in a hurry after all.

After releasing these key pieces of evidence, he spoke up: "I’m sure that you all know now that in the past day, I’ve led my Slime species to another world."

He has really led his Slime species to another world?

A true otherworld?

One that was massive in size?

Everyone was stunned.

"That’s impossible! But… these pictures??"

As countless people replied, the thread filled up with hundreds of comments in an instant. While the game did not have many players, it had countless followers who paid close attention to the forum. At this moment, they were all super excited.

The next sentence was even more shocking and everyone was thrown into a frenzy.

"I know what you’re all curious about. It’s only been one day, why did I take so many pictures? You probably think that I’m one of those screen archers, right? That I leisurely take pictures everywhere I go, and was simply taking in the exotic sights? But that’s just wrong, how can the other world be so friendly towards Slimes? You think I can just take my Slimes sightseeing in the city as I please?"

"I will answer most of your questions with this one simple sentence: In your eyes, I may have been there for little more than a day, but in the other world, I have lived for over a hundred years! One hundred years is a truly long time, longer than any of you could ever hope to experience!"

The entire forum instantly went crazy.

People’s hands trembled as they gripped their mice in front of their computers. Their lips quivered, and for several seconds their minds blanked out from the shock. Some of them even spilled water all over their desks. Then, they started to frantically type away, posting their questions.

"What really happened?!"

"One day outside is a hundred years in the game?"

Their replies filled the screen in an instant.

The comments piled up, and the thread updated at the same rate as video frames in a movie, moving at a speed too fast for the human eye to follow.

As people typed in front of their computers, they all thought of the same thing: This was the fabled technology that could adjust the flow of time in virtual reality!
