Shepherding Humanity

Chapter 57: A Conversation with the Ruler of Babylon

But now that he was a Level Four Wizard, he has started to feel uncomfortable.

"In those girl’s eyes, I am still a Level three Wizard. They simply do not know that I have reached the Fourth Level a year ago. They’re only Level Two Witches and it has been difficult enough for them to gather enough resources for me to reach Level Three…. Now that I’ve reached Level Four, I’ll need to come up with a secret plan by myself."

"Elizabeth and the girls were amazed by my talent, but that’s only because they’ve seen too little of the world."

Future Skywhale frowned and shook his head bitterly. "I may have superior talent, but it’s still far inferior to that of the Three Witches of yesteryear. Even when compared to the likes of Lilith or Medusa, the most gifted women of the current era, I’m still slightly inferior…. If I train the normal way, I’ll never catch up to them. But, I have my own strong point, and I haven’ t wasted my forty plus years in this world. I’ve finally succeeded in climbing to the top of my tech tree!"

He slowly turned his gaze to the object before him. This was the mechanical lifeform he had built in secret.

It had the figure of a slender male three meters in height, with a round shield in his left hand and a dark blue staff in his right. His skin was white as snow, his face divine. Stars glittered on his dark blue mage robes. This “man” looked like a god out of Norse mythology.

He may appear to be human, but was in fact a construct made from the sturdy bones of giant beasts. Countless runes and sigils of enchantment were inscribed on the construct’s surface, forming circuit diagrams that looked both esoteric and mysterious, radiating a profound sense of danger.

"In my original world, as a world class talent in mechanical engineering, it took me forty years to create my high-tech company. My progress in this other world has been slow and difficult, but after more than thirty years, I’ve gained a rudimentary understanding of this world’s soul science and the fundamentals of spiritual power. Creating an alchemical life form based on science and technology is not difficult for me."

He lightly leaped up, entering the open hatch leading to the engine room located on the construct’s chest, and started pulling on the bellows with his feeler. He poured his spiritual power into the control panel and manipulated it like he would a magic staff.

Click!

The hatch slowly closed. A lithe and perfectly handsome man who stood three meters tall slowly walked out. "After today, almost no one will know that I am a Slime. Henceforth, my name is Grantham!"

"But, do I want to use this mechanical body to fight and level up by gathering the necessary resources to reach Level Four by myself?"

Future Skywhale thought for a moment then lazily rejected this idea. As a gamer who favored leisurely farming games, he hated violence. "It looks like I’ll have to find someone else to leech off of, someone capable of providing for me."

……

That day, Future Skywhale walked into the royal palace of babylon.

He had great respect for this defeated monarch of legend. For the sake of preserving her nation, she had to keep quiet, reign in her temper while suffering humiliation, and even had to hand over her lover. This was not something an ordinary person could do.

After all these years, Lilith was still stuck at Level Five.

She was still an upright person, but obsession plagued her heart. Since witches focus most on spiritual cultivation, she could only be forever stuck at the threshold beyond the Fifth Level, unable to step into the Sixth Level of legend to become a Legendary Witch.

Meanwhile, in the Rose Kingdom, many Level Five Witches have appeared over the years. They were all stronger than Lilith, and thus the kingdom of Babylon no longer had any hope of opposing them.

"If not for the appearance of the Slime, which eased up the pressure on our men, my kingdom might have already…"

At this moment, Lilith was sitting on the golden throne of Babylon, wooden staff in hand. Her exquisitely beautiful face was full of grief.

Boom!

Out of nowhere, a man strode into the audience chamber.

He was tall, with a graceful and slender body; with staff and shield in hand, his figure was perfection personified, like a god out of myth.

"Who are you? You who stand three-meters tall, and have breached the defenses of my royal palace with none the wiser? How can there be such a tall and majestic human being?"

Lilith frowned slightly and silently measured Future Skywhale’s strength. He had the aura of a Level Four Wizard. There was still such a man hidden in the kingdom of Babylon?

Lilith was so shocked that she stood up from her throne. "How could we have missed a wizard?"

Boom!

Future Skywhale pulled on the bellows with his feeler. His aura exploded, clashing with that of Lilith’s.

"This is…. the strength of a Fifth Level Wizard." Lilith's mind went blank, "How is this possible! You’re clearly a Level Four Wizard, how are you emitting the power of a Level Five Wizard?"

Future Skywhale held his silence for a moment. He knew well that his next words would bring explosive change to this world of magic with its primitive and rough use of energy. "This is the power of alchemy."

Future Skywhale stood tall in the audience chamber as he conversed with the melancholically beautiful monarch.

"During the age of the Three Witches, the thrice exalted god Hermes took the form of a black raven and conversed with the people of Babylon, bestowing upon us the three great disciplines of Magic, Meditation, and Alchemy. The Three Great Witches could only uncover the mysteries of the first two disciplines….. but now, I have opened the ‘Gate of Alchemy' and know the truth of this world."

Alchemy!!!

Lilith's mind went blank.

Legend has it that Alchemy was the most mysterious and esoteric discipline.

The god of wisdom Mercury once said that this mystical discipline could create life and was a shortcut to prying open the Gates of Truth. He who mastered Alchemy would gain the glorious Truth of all things, and know all that there is to know about this world.

"This means that this man before me possesses infinite wisdom. What the Three Witches have failed to accomplish back then, he has actually…"

Lilith’s gaze burned like molten flames. The hand which held her staff trembled violently.

"Our kingdom, finally…." Her face was flushed with passion, as well as a hint of madness. In this man, she saw her nation’s only hope.

—The Kingdom of Babylon’s only hope.

God has not abandoned us!

It was at this moment that the genre suddenly changed.

Future Skywhale opened the hatch, and a cute green Slime hopped down. The sight of its soft and cute feeler quivering passionately as it spoke was simply adorable. "Come now! Your majesty, grant me the power of the Kingdom of Babylon, and in your nation’s stead, I will help you all defy your sad fate! I will defeat that high and mighty Empress of Death, Medusa!"

Lilith: "?????"

What was this thing that just jumped off this man's chest?

Was this the main body?

A Slime!?

Lilith's mind went blank, and the final thought left in her mind was:

So there are some men who look like a mighty Level Four Wizard on the surface, but is in fact the weakest creature, a Slime!
