Orc Hero Story: Discovery Chronicles

Chapter 80.3

“Huh? What’s wrong? Didn’t you already know from the beginning that humans are like that?”

“…Huh?”

“Humans lie and sometimes deceive even their own relatives… It’s common sense among elves. We’ve known it for hundreds of years. Even the upper echelons of the elves conduct diplomacy with that in mind. To me, it’s like, ‘What’s the problem now?’ But I understand that your young people find it hard to believe in your own race. After all, your sister was deceived and almost killed.” As she said that, Thunder Sonia sighed and thought of something else. Maybe it was better to end the conversation. Regardless of the facts, Nazar wouldn’t be able to accept them without sorting out his feelings. In the midst of the confusion, there might even be a possibility that his own sister took advantage of him and make him side with her.

Now, it remains to be seen whether we fight these two or not… She wanted to bring together Nazar and the person who seemed to be Liscia. That was the feeling that had brought her here, so for now, she could say that she had achieved her goal. Then, the next goal would be to fight the two in front of her and continue pursuing Poplatica…  It seems impossible.

Thunder Sonia came to that conclusion.

“Liscia, I’m glad to see you after so long. It may sound ironic, but I’m glad that you seem to be doing well. Will the next time be on the battlefield? Well, it depends on Gediguz, but if he really resurrects, tell him to prepare the coffin and wait. Next time, I’ll be the one to kill him.”

Thunder Sonia chose to withdraw. Nazar had already lost the will to fight. He was around twenty years old. It would take some time for him to calm down after learning that his sister, whom he thought was dead, was alive, and that she had almost been killed by someone who was practically family, turning her into a traitor to her race.

Now, she couldn’t fight, or it would be futile even if she did. Depending on the situation, there might even be a possibility of becoming Nazar’s enemy. Even if it was Thunder Sonia, breaking through these two, who would probably use delaying tactics, was extremely difficult. If Nazar betrayed her and this turned into a one-against-three situation, it wouldn’t be easy to escape. She had no choice but to give up on Poplatica. It was advisable to withdraw before Nazar reached a conclusion.

“Do you mind stepping back quietly?”

“Sure. But if you really want my head, well, fighting might be a good option. I’ll make sure to take at least one of you with me.”

“I’d like to fight if there’s a good chance to bring down that Thunder Sonia… is what I’d like to say, but…”

Liscia and Carrot exchanged glances. If they could defeat Nazar and Thunder Sonia here, it would be a significant achievement. After all, these two were among the four who once defeated Gediguz. They could potentially be a significant obstacle to starting a war. If they could be defeated, it would be better to do so.

However, first of all, even if they weren’t defeated here, there should be an opportunity to defeat them once Gediguz resurrected. Nazar and Thunder Sonia were already legendary figures, but the Demon King was on a different level. After all, it took all four of them to defeat him once and for all.

Moreover, they had just achieved their goal. They had obtained the Human Scriptures, and all the keys were now in their possession. It was time to start the main event. There were fun times ahead, so abruptly abandoning it would be foolish.

“Let’s stop here.”

“Yeah, let’s meet on the battlefield.”

“Of course, on the battlefield.”

Thunder Sonia turned around without hesitation. Liscia and Carrot also turned around and ventured into the depths of the forest.

“But I…” Nazar hesitated for a moment. Thunder Sonia wouldn’t wait for him. Liscia wouldn’t look back either. No one would say anything. What he had to do, he had to choose for himself. It had always been that way. Since he learned that Liscia had died, Nazar had always been like that.

But this time, knowing that Liscia was alive, hearing his sister’s words, he felt unsure again. Another figure, a beacon, had returned. But that beacon pointed in the opposite direction to what he was doing. If he followed this and believed in it, he would be finished. He had been denying himself since Liscia’s death and could never again be able to choose for himself, always doing his sister’s former will.

Nazar wondered if there might be something else that could serve as a beacon.

Suddenly, the face of a man came to his mind.

“Ah…”

It was the face of a hero who continued a tough journey for the sake of his own race. This hero had suddenly appeared to protect the human city from the monster. Although there seemed to be no reason for him to protect it, he fought to save innocent people. Surely, seeing his back, some of those who were saved would reconsider their opinion of the orc race, even people from towns that had suffered orc raids in the past. Although most orcs did not share his noble ideals, he supposed that this is how one should move forward with pride.

As if cutting through his hesitation, Nazar lifted his head and turned around. When Thunder Sonia came into view, she turned around and waited for him.

“Is it okay? Aren’t you going with your sister?”

“There are others fighting in terrible situations. I won’t take the easy way out.”

Bash, the “Orc Hero”. He too received the invitation from these women, but he chose his own path. Nazar had seen it up close. At least, that’s what he thought.

“I see… By the way, coff, it seems that what I said earlier bothers you.”

“Really?”

“For example, if you don’t want to go to war with the Elves, you could marry someone from the royal family of my race to strengthen the connections. Beastmen and Elves have already done that, haven’t they?”

“Oh, yes, that’s true, isn’t it?”

“Then, humans would marry their children to Dwarves and Beastmen. Solidifying these connections, even if one nation tries to do something bad, the other three can keep it in check, right?”

“Oh, yes, that’s true, isn’t it?”

“If you want, I can be your bride. If you and I are together, it won’t be so easy for them to kill you.”

“Haha. I really appreciate that.” Although it was a confusing conversation, Nazar thought she was comforting him and smiled weakly. “The human royal family can’t marry outside their race to preserve purity, but I appreciate your feelings. I see… When you say that, I realize that I’ve come this far without knowing anything about politics or diplomacy. I’m curious about what Liscia said, and if I survive this incident, I’ll have to study more.”

“Oh, really? Well… right, studying is important! Yep! Do your best!”

And thus, Thunder Sonia was dismissed in a somewhat pitiful manner, leaving her with no way to retort.
