Chapter 49: Not scattered

“Yes. I met Elena Evenwood in the Fairy Forest and got her request. They want us to stop evil rituals.”

Ivan was puzzled as he answered.

He thought he had an open mind, but it seems that he also had a prejudice against elves. Looking at her smoking tobacco with an annoyed expression is pretty shocking.

All the elves he’s met so far have no expression, to the point of wondering if they even have feelings. Then he met an elf who was so lively, and he couldn’t get used to it.

“You met Elena Evenwood at the Fairy Forest? The Fairy Forest isn’t open to the outside by agreement, but you went in and out yourself?”

She glanced at the group with sharp eyes.

Ivan made eye contact with her, but it was difficult for him to read her thoughts in a different sense than the elves he had met so far. Having suffered so much from the world, it was a very skillful face to hide one’s thoughts.

“The World Tree was very interested in me. Thanks to that, I had a great visit.”

“What? Oh, yes. That’s right. You are that human. Norse, Asgardian warrior, Esirsson.”

Sueup, hoo-.

She inadvertently bit the tobacco pipe, then frowned and spat it out.

“The lights are off. It just threw away my taste.”

She put down her tobacco pipe and used a few long needles as hairpins to twist her hair up and fix it.

Looking at the thickness and length, it was clearly not something used for sewing. It was just the right size to stab someone to death.

“I think you’re wearing something quite bloody in your head.”

Seeing Ivan’s gaze, she grinned.

“I needed this because I lived among humans. There are so many crazy people who want to try unraveling the elf clothes.”

“What a foolish man.”

“Why do you think only men do that?”

Ivan paused for a moment, then nodded. Things like that happen, too.

“Has it ever tasted blood?”

“no way. Would I wear something like that on my head?”

She smiled softly.

“I always replace it with a new one.”

As she beckoned from her seat, a sudden wind blew inside her sealed house. The pungent smell of tobacco went away in an instant.

The skill of handling the power of spirits was very natural. It was clear that she was not ordinary just by that show.

“I’m Irene. What about you?”

“Ivan Esirsson.”

“I’m Delfino.”

“It’s Ferocious Tooth.”

After she had finished her brief speech, she pulled out a pile of papers and said,

“Okay. Now we know each other’s faces and names. Then let’s talk about work.”

The western Union Kingdom was active in the distribution of goods. Since water transport was convenient because it was located along a large river and the western coastline, intermediary trade linking other continents and the various countries of Kalonan in the eastern continent were developed.

So, the Western Union Kingdom was a place where various races and cultures were mixed. Even if something unusual happened, they would just think that other people have that kind of culture.

Besides, it was a place where there were a lot of accidents. It was impossible to live a normal life if it didn’t go over in moderation. (dlazarturead(dot)wordpress(dot)com)

“So, even warlocks aren’t banned here. If you do research on a corpse fairly, they will even accept Necromancer.”

It was actually a very complicated and absurd way to be justified, but it was the law anyway.

“But not worshipping a demon. It’s very vigilant like other countries on the continent. As they acknowledge various cultures, they punish more severely if someone crosses the line. That’s why the demon worshipers haven’t appeared for a while…”

“And yet, they started their activities recently?”

“Yeah. The number of disappearances and deaths for unknown reasons has increased recently. I think that’s because these guys are preparing for their rituals…”

“Um, that’s right.”

“The rituals they do are meaningless unless they do it consecutively. They will try the ritual here soon.”

As usual, she didn’t care whether the demon worshipers ran rampant or not. The problem is that what they’re doing is detrimental to the Fairy Forest.

“You’re probably not the only one who noticed that. What’s the other side’s reaction?”

For example, how the country reacts, what’s the response from Sanctus Populi, how the nobles react, and so on.

“The Kingdom has released the Knights. Sanctus Populis is also wandering around. The nobles will roll their heads wondering if it is possible to use it for politics.”

“They’re being vigilant like that. Will they really move?”

Delfino, who had been listening to them, intervened at those words.

“They will move.”

He asserted in a confident voice.

“They will move no matter what the risk. If they didn’t start it in the first place, I’m not sure. But since they started it already, they’ll see it to the end.”

“Why?”

“It doesn’t happen in just one place, but on such a large scale across the continent? It’s clear that this was not their will but the demons’ orders. Demons don’t care about human danger. They have no choice but to obey since their will is subordinate to the devil.”

No matter how the demon worshipers revered them, they were merely expendable goos from the demon’s point of view. If the demon worshipers had been kind and considerate enough to stop what they do because of damage, they wouldn’t have been called a demon in the first place.

“In any case, they won’t change their plans.”

When it comes to demon worshipers, Delfino was the most expert. Who will you trust if you don’t believe the opinion of the exorcist who has been fighting against them on the front line for decades?

“By now, these guys must be in the midst of preparing their offerings. If we find them first, it’s a success. Otherwise, it’s a failure.”

Irene, who had simply summarized the situation, said dryly.

“It might be for a while, but we’ve become a colleague. I hope that my skills are useful.”

Your eyes are so fierce. Ivan would have to be careful not to get an arrow into the back of his head.

Ivan nodded his head as he thought so.

“Don’t let it be a burden.”

The strange combination of Norse Warrior, Arun’s priest, Lizard Warrior, and Elf Ranger attracted people’s attention even in the Western Union Kingdom, where all kinds of people are actually mixed. So they have to hide in their own way.

Sook.

Her figure changed as Irene stroked her earring hanging from her ear.

Her long, pointed ears turned short and round like a human, her white-blonde hair turned black, and her dark green eyes turned brown.

Her features and skin were subtly changed, obscuring even the splendid beauty of an elf. Even now, she looked quite beautiful, but compared to before, she came into the category of ordinary.

Ivan also changed his appearance.

When he decorated the lost warrior spear like a staff and hit the ground a couple of times, his large and strong body shrank. His tight muscles were gone, and he even looked a little like a dwarf.

With one of his wide-brimmed hats on, no one could tell that he was Ivan.

“It’s a great transformation technique. Is it more perfect than before?”

Delfino was impressed, but Ivan’s mood was not very good. Because all of this was a magical power that was forcibly formed.

It was an ability reminiscent of someone.

Meanwhile, as they watched Ivan and Irene transform, Ferocious Tooth’s eyes shook wildly.

“I have no such ability!”

He was a great Lizardman warrior. Of course, there was no ability like magic. Honestly, he’d never even thought of transforming himself as anything else in his life.

Ferocious Tooth was bewildered, so Delfino comforted him.

“It’s okay. You can see Lizardmen more often than you think in the Western Union Kingdom. You don’t have to change yourself.”

But, Delfino, who spoke like that, changed his clothes and touched his hair a little, and he had changed like a different person. So his comfort was not of much help to Ferocious Tooth.

“We’re leaving now. We have to walk around diligently.”

Whether there was an effect of changing their appearance, the gaze on them was greatly reduced.

People were looking at Irene with Ferocious Tooth, but they quickly passed by.

At least it meant that it wasn’t very flashy.

“They took drugs in the Roman Kingdom. Are they going to do the same here?”

“There is a possibility. But I don’t know whether the lords were also involved. If they start selling drugs in bulk, an investigation will come.”

Ivan and Delfino were whispering as Irene walked forward, shaking her head.

“It’s not that I don’t have any clue. Just follow me for now.”

Ivan and the party looked for a horse to move around comfortably. Still, the price was several times higher than usual. The big war with Greenskins in the east seemed to have affected even the Western Union Kingdom. (dlazarturead(dot)wordpress(dot)com)

In the end, they didn’t even see a horse of good pedigree, and they only got two suitable horses.

Rather, it was a good thing because Ferocious Tooth has difficulty riding a horse due to his physical structure, so they needed a carriage anyway.

The ride quality was still the worst due to the combination of a cheap wagon and the dirt road, but it got better with a few cushions filled with straw.

Ivan sat on the driver’s seat. Although it wasn’t really as smooth as a coachman, driving a horse wasn’t very strange.

“Right over there. Then just go straight for a while.”

Irene who was sitting next to Ivan and showed him the way, took out tobacco pipe and lit it.

Shooo!

Tobacco smoke came out. Ivan’s eyebrows twitched subtly as he sniffed the smell right next to him.

“Oh, does it bother you?”

As Irene asked so, Ivan shook his head.

“It’s not because of that. I just don’t think it smells like normal tobacco.”

For simple tobacco, it had a strong herbal scent. Ivan’s sensitive sense did not miss it.

“Did you realize that? Do you have a good nose?”

“I lost one eye, and my other senses became more sensitive.”

Tuk tuk.

Ivan patted his eyepatch, and Irene grinned.

“It’s not very enviable.”

Sueup, hoo-.

Exhaling her smoke, she nodded her head.

“It’s a mix of this and that. That’s how I feel at peace.”

Her expression changed in an instant.

She seemed to miss her hometown.

“It seems like it’s been quite a while since you left the fairy forest since you make a face like that.”

Irene looked at Ivan’s face and nodded her head.

“I left the forest before your father or your father’s father was even born. Old by human standards, and not short by elven standards.”

She had never returned to the forest in all these years, and she had never met her people.

She forced herself to disconnect from the World Tree and came out because she felt like she would never be able to get out if she was connected to the World Tree again.

For the elves, the connection to the world tree was part of the body and part of the mind. It was by no means easy to cut it off by one’s own will.

The elves who left the forest and went outside were ascetics who came out with such determination.

They refused to meet, even by chance, for fear of weakening each other’s will.

“How about going back to the fairy forest?”

At Ivan’s question, she grinned.

“The mission is not over. One day, when I feel like I can’t stand it anymore, I have to go back and rest. But not yet. It will be more than a hundred years from now.”

Sueup, hoo-.

Again, a smoky smoke came out.

Unlike before, the smoke did not seem so light.

“It’s almost here. Everyone get ready.”
