Edge of the Apocalypse

Chapter 34: Heart Machine

Upon hearing Emily's words, Alan knew that he had guessed correctly. The one who poisoned Lucy was the seemingly innocent and kind girl in front of her. Among the things Alan hated, betrayal was on the list. Even though the youths who participated in the death arena were their own life and death enemies. But at least until the alliance was dissolved, everyone was an ally.

Since they were allies, they should have helped each other. But not only did Emily not intend to do so, she wanted to kill Lucy from the start. However, Allen wasn't too surprised. In this life and death situation, human nature or trust wasn't the first thing to be measured. However, Ellen's killing intent towards the girl was even more determined. Of course, Emily had to be able to leave alive in the hands of the two teenagers.

"You said Lucy was poisoned?" Rafie seemed to hear something funny and shook his head and laughed, "Emily, if you want to make up a lie, at least make it up a little more credible." Where do you get the chance to poison Lucy before the game starts; After the game started, the distance between you and her was too far away. Up until now, you still haven't met up, let alone had the chance to poison her. "So you see, this lie of yours is really full of mistakes and omissions."

Emily said disapprovingly, "You're wrong. Lucy was poisoned before the game started."

"Impossible!" '"Even if you have a good relationship with Lucy, there's no chance of that," Rafie said firmly.

"Of course, Lucy is not an idiot and naturally won't give me the chance to poison her. But what if something happens to someone she trusts? For example, her mentor Aisha?" Emily whispered.

"This is even more ridiculous." Canon pointed to his head and said, "Emily, are you trying to belittle our intelligence? If Aisha poisons Lucy and the committee finds out, she's going to have a hard time. I don't know what kind of benefits you can offer to get Aisha to do this."

"I haven't finished yet. Aisha planted the poison on Lucy, but what if Aisha doesn't know it's a poison? Actually, Aisha is just a medium, a tool." Emily said plainly, "My mentor, Mr. Hannie, is Aisha's lover. I asked him to sneakily replace the fortifier that should have been given to Lucy with another one while visiting Aisha."

"Oh, so Mr. Hannie is still obedient to you?" Rafie mocked.

'Of course not, but Mr. Hannie loves to hear my sweet voice under him. I made him happy, and there are other benefits, so he doesn't mind doing me such a small favor.'

Rafie and Canon looked at each other. Like Alan on the tree crown, they had never thought that this would be so complicated. From this, they could tell that Amisha was a scheming girl.

"Alright, Emily, we believe you." '"But don't you think it's a good idea to kill you and Lucy together?" Rafie spun the spear.

"No, then you'll have less fun." Emily stretched out her left hand and spread out her palm. Inside was a small rectangular metal box. "This is Lucy's antidote. It can threaten her. If she wants to live, she will agree to anything you want. Anything!"

Emily emphasized and said, "As long as you let me go, it will be yours."

Rafie and Canon's apple rolled up and down for a while, and it was evident that it was much more interesting for her to fulfill any of their demands than to kill Lucy. Especially when they thought of Lucy's tight and slender legs, the breathing of the two teenagers became heavy.

"Deal. Put that thing down and go as far away as you can. Pray, Emily, pray we don't hit it again." Rafie and Canon exchanged glances and could tell what each other was thinking. So Rafie took a step forward and said, "Also, leave Lucy's coordinates."

"I don't know the exact coordinates, but as long as we follow this direction, we will definitely find her." Emily pointed west and threw the box containing the antidote to the ground. She retreated step by step. When she retreated a dozen steps, she immediately turned around and ran.

The figure moved and suddenly shouted from behind. Emily screamed and the dagger in her hand swept behind her.

With a ding sound, the dagger swept over something. She calmed down and saw that it was Lafite's javelin. However, even though she had bounced off the spear that was thrown at her back, she had shifted the center of gravity of the spear and fell to the ground. Emily's scheming was not bad, but her stamina and strength were too weak. Just as she fell, blood suddenly burst out from her calf, and the violent sound of gunfire sounded almost at the same time.

The gunshot came from a rough revolver in Canon's hand. The muzzle of the revolver was much larger than an ordinary revolver. The bullet fired directly made a bloody hole in Emily's calf and broke one of her legs!

"You guys didn't keep your promise!" Emily's face was pale and her breathing was short.

Rafie walked over and slowly picked up one of the javelins that had been stabbed into the ground. Then he came to Emily's side and raised her chin with the tip of his gun. "What is the promise? Can I eat it?" He said.

Emily laughed, "I knew you bastards wouldn't keep your word. I'm not afraid to tell you that the antidote is fake!"

Rafie's expression changed and she slapped Emily on the spot, "Bitch, hand over the antidote."

"Do you think I'm an idiot? After I hand it over, I'll let you kill me?" Emily laughed smugly.

Fang Lu's smile suddenly turned painful. Rafie stabbed her right hand and nailed her to the ground. '"Don't be complacent, don't tell me I won't do it myself," Rafie said as she reached out to touch her body.

"Do you think I'll hide it? Idiot!" Emily spat out a mouthful of sputum at him.

Sure enough, Rafie touched the girl's entire body, not even letting go of some private places. However, he could not find anything suspicious. Looking at Emily's complacent expression, Canon raised his gun and aimed it at her forehead. '"Emily, you shouldn't have provoked us. It's too easy for you to die. But I'm going to make your life worse than death," Rafie said coldly as she reached out her hand to press the muzzle of the gun.

After he used the tip of his gun to break the girl's tendons, Emily opened her eyes wide and said, "What are you doing?"

"Leave you here, Emily." Rafie patted her cheek and said, "You have to thank us for our kindness. I won't kill you. But you can't go anywhere. You can only watch yourself slowly die or be swallowed by some dangerous plant."

"No, you can't do this!" Emily screamed. Compared to this kind of torture, death could be considered a blessing.

But Rafie and Canon ignored her. After packing their things, the two youths walked towards Emily and pointed to the west side of the forest. When they were far away, Alan got down from the tree and walked to Emily's side.

When she saw Alan, Emily was shocked and her expression became extremely calm. "Did you hear everything?"

Alan didn't say anything and just nodded.

"Help me. I'll give you the real antidote. I'll hide it in a tree hole not far away. Take me there and I'll give you the antidote." Emily pleaded as if a drowning man had caught the best straw.

Ellen squatted down and said, "Tell me the location. I'll get it myself."

He stared into the girl's eyes and Emily's expression changed. Finally, she smiled bitterly and said, "Alright, I'm lying to you."

Alan nodded, stood up, and turned to leave. "Wait, don't you want to kill me?" Emily shouted from behind.

"Yes, but I think those two have a better idea." Alan said truthfully.

"No, no, no, I don't want to die like this. Ellen, you want to save Lucy, don't you? I'll give you the real antidote. Please kill me." Cried Emily desperately. She knew very well that Alan would not let her go. In this way, death was the end of liberation.

"Do you think I'll fall for it?" Alan frowned.

"It's true this time. The antidote is in my dagger, and the handle can move!" Cried Emily.

Allen's eyes swept and his gaze fell on the dagger beside the girl. He walked over and picked up the dagger for examination. Sure enough, the handle of the dagger could move, and it was empty inside. A glass tube filled with blue liquid slid out of the handle. The smooth surface of the glass tube reflected the girl's face. "Look, I'm not lying to you," Emily said. "Well, give me a good time, please."

Putting away the antidote, Alan squatted down and reached out to gently hold the girl's neck. He shook his head and said, "You shouldn't have done that."

Emily smiled. "You won't understand, Ellen. I hope you live to the end, but you'll find that dying from the start may be a good ending."

His voice stopped abruptly. As he spat out the last word, Alan broke her neck. The smile on the girl's face froze. Perhaps she was right. In this cruel battlefield, living is not necessarily happier than dying.

However, only by surviving would there be hope.

Alan would not give up hope. Not only would he live, he would also become a victor. As for how to untie the knot between him and Lucy, he didn't want to think about it for the time being. Lucy was the first friend he was willing to make, and it was the girl who gave him a glimmer of sunshine. If possible, he hoped that this ray of sunlight would shine forever. But now, he would not forget those blood-colored memories.

Bai Fang's eyes and her mother's ring reminded him of what to do at all times. If he had to make a choice, Alan knew what he would choose.

Fortunately, now was not the time to choose. Alan suddenly felt a little grateful to Rafie and Canon, because of them, Alan did not need to think about this headache for the time being. The two youths were naturally on his elimination list, which was still very long. At the very least, Alan had a lot to do before the name Lucy remained.

But even he couldn't deny that he couldn't think of a way to get Lucy off the list.

It was like an inextricable knot.
