A Chaotic World

Chapter 44: Escaping with Hu Shenwei

"Stop him!" Nanhong Yechang shouted from behind Hu Shenwei.

This order was directed towards the demon who had been taking on Lu Tianzi. Right now, he was the only one standing between Hu Shenwei and the rest of the team.

However, instead of acting as instructed, the demon actually dodged to the side in panic, allowing Hu Shenwei to pass by freely!

Even Hu Shenwei was surprised as he directly ran past the demon.

"What are you doing?!" Nanhong Yechang roared in rage.

As if it was not enough that the demon still had not beaten this bunch of Essence Building realm martial artists after so long, the demon actually dared to disobey his orders?

But at that moment, Nanhong Yechang's eyes suddenly sharpened in suspicion. After taking a second look, Nanhong Yechang noticed that the demon's breathing was erratic, as though he had just been straining himself in combat!

He actually ended up in such a state against a bunch of Essence Building realm human martial artists?

Nanhong Yechang was clear on the strength of his subordinate, and the demon was no weakling.

If even he managed to end up like this against a bunch of Essence Building realm martial artists, then that meant the human martial artists probably had more up their sleeves than he thought!

With that in mind, Nanhong Yechang stopped to give the group of humans in front of him a good lookover, just in time to see Hu Shenwei rejoin the ranks of his team.

"Are you guys all right?" Hu Shenwei asked in concern immediately after rejoining them.

"We are fine for now," Instructor Nie broke out of his daze and answered, but quickly turned his attention to the huge gash on Hu Shenwei's back. "But what about you? Your wound looks serious."

"That is not important. Right now, we need to focus on getting out of here!" Hu Shenwei turned around to face the demons.

"Give it up already! None of you are going to get out of here alive!" Nanhong Yechang brandished his sword as he faced Hu Shenwei confidently.

The calm and composure from before could no longer be seen on his face. In fact, thanks to the attack from the paper talisman before, he seemed to be in an even more miserable state than the injured Hu Shenwei.

Still, his current strength could not be underestimated.

Nanhong Yechang pointed his sword towards the group of human martial artists as he drove his Slaughter Essence to the extreme.

As if responding to his call, a gust promptly picked up around him, causing his clothes and hair to sway in the wind. The trees rustled and the fallen leaves were pushed away, clearing up a small space around him where no fallen leaves or twigs could profane.

Lu Tianzi could feel power surging up from within Nanhong Yechang, as though it was a volcano right about to erupt!

Without a doubt, the next attack would be extremely dangerous!

"This has gone far enough! With this, it shall all end!" Nanhong Yechang sneered. "Be honoured, you bunch of human trash! When you go to hell, you will at least be able to boast that you died at the hands of my strongest skill, Blades of Darkness!"

With that, Nanhong Yechang raised his sword up high.

At this moment, Lu Tianzi could feel all the power within Nanhong Yechang travelling up to the very tip of his sword.

"Support me!" Hu Shenwei stepped in front valiantly, raising his sword as he braced for the incoming attack.

Every human martial artist stepped behind him, channelling their Spiritual Essence as they prepared for the incoming attack!

"Die!" Nanhong Yechang slashed down with a loud roar.

A dark light flashed at the tip of his sword, drawing a black line in the air that followed the trajectory of the slash.

This black line did not dissipate.

On the contrary, it materialised before erupting towards the human martial artists. Just like its name, the projectile was like a blade of darkness that headed straight for them!

It looked like a simple attack, but the human marial artists were not nearly foolish enough to underestimate an attack that Nanhong Yechang had such confidence in.

"Here it comes!" Hu Shenwei shouted as he slashed forward with his sword as well.

Following his lead, the other human martial artists similarly followed, and so did Lu Tianzi.

Since Hu Shenwei wanted to take the lead, Lu Tianzi would not mind supporting the man from behind. After all, he would not be the one taking the brunt of the force.

Bang-!

When the human martial artists' attacks struck the black line simultaneously, all of their faces stiffened in shock!

Heavy!

That was the thought on everyone's mind.

Despite being a thin black line, it was actually heavy enough to push everyone back despite their joint efforts.

However, if Nanhong Yechang wanted to completely overwhelm them with just this, then it was still not enough!

With a powerful bellow, Hu Shenwei forcibly altered the direction of the black line, pushing it into the skies.

Seeing that, the human martial artists were relieved.

In the end, they still managed to prevail!

But when they turned their attention back to the demons, the human martial artists actually saw Nanhong Yechang continue to slash out again and again, forming multiple black lines in the air.

They only barely managed to deflect just a single blade of darkness, so how could they ever defend against this many of them?

"Shit! Scatter and run!"

The human martial artists no longer held any hopes of resisting, choosing to run as the multiple slashes of darkness erupted towards them!

Hu Shenwei had turned to retreat even before he shouted out the order. However, the moment he turned around, Hu Shenwei almost vomited blood as he saw Lu Tianzi already a distance away.

Lu Tianzi had actually retreated even before he did!

This sneaky bastard!

Hu Shenwei cursed in his heart as he chose to run in Lu Tianzi's direction.

Behind him, the attacks from Nanhong Yechang smashed unceasingly into the surrounding trees and ground, crushing everything with the sheer weight behind each attack!

Trees fell and the ground was carved up, creating a scene of apocalypse as the humans were forced to scatter.

"Get them!"

Lu Tianzi could hear Nanhong Yechang roar from behind him. Sweeping his perception to his back, Lu Tianzi felt his heart turn cold.

Hu Shenwei was actually following him?

If that was the case, then they would definitely be pursued by the main force of the enemy!

As he expected, the fallen trees behind them were quickly smashed apart by blades of darkness, revealing Nanhong Yechang and two other demons who were charging after them.

The demon captain continued slashing out, sending blades of darkness after the two human martial artists who were weaving around the trees.

But the fact that they had to actively dodge the projectiles meant that their speed would no doubt be affected.

The demons were already injured by the attack from the paper talisman from before, resulting in their movements before slower than usual. However, slowly but steadily, Lu Tianzi and Hu Shenwei could still feel the demons catching up to them.

Who knew that at this point, Hu Shenwei would halt in his steps and once again pull out a slip of paper?

The impact of the paper talisman from before was far too great, creating a deep impression that had been engraved into everyone's mind.

So with the appearance of yet another slip of paper, they immediately put up their guard!

The demons' eyes narrowed as they sharpened their concentration, their perceptions following Hu Shenwei's hand that was holding onto the slip of paper.

There was no doubt about it, it was another paper talisman!

"Form up! Dark Fortress Formation!" Nanhong Yechang yelled in rage while the other demons were still stumped.

The three demons immediately joined together with Nanhong Yechang standing in front, driving their Slaughter Essence to the maximum as they prepared to defend.

Since escaping was of no use when it came to the paper talisman, then they would at least use a simple formation to amplify their strengths. This way, they could at least reduce the damage taken!

It was almost like what the human martial artists were doing just a moment ago when defending against Nanhong Yechang's Blade of Darkness, only that their positions were now reversed.

"Die!" Hu Shenwei pierced his sword towards the paper talisman, the same way he used to activate the previous one.

"Activate!" Nanhong Yechang slammed his sword into the ground in response, as the other two demons each placed a hand on his back, sending energy straight into his body.

A bubbling black substance appeared on the ground in front of him, as though it had seeped out from beneath the forest soil. A dark and ominous aura could be felt from this black substance, as though it had reached up from the depths of hell itself.

The layer of black substance spread quickly, encircling the group of demons in an instant. The moment the circle was completed, this black substance shot up from the ground, forming a black hemisphere that completely isolated the demons from the outside world.

Against the sheer might of the paper talisman, they could only rely on this Dark Fortress Formation, the strongest defensive formation that they were capable of in this situation!

The demons holed themselves within, bracing themselves for the powerful offence that was to come!

But it never did.

After half a minute, Nanhong Yechang finally got tired of waiting, directly dispelling the Dark Fortress Formation. As he suspected, both Lu Tianzi and Hu Shenwei were no longer anywhere to be seen.

At this moment, Nanhong Yechang felt like he had just been smacked in the face.

It was as though he was about to explode from the rage that was swelling up within him!

To think that he had been deceived by the human martial artists in front of his subordinates!

"Find them and kill them all!" Nanhong Yechang bellowed in anger as his voice echoed through the forest.

A distance away, Hu Shenwei and Lu Tianzi were still escaping, even making sure to change their direction multiple times in order to make it more difficult for the demons to follow their trail.

No words were exchanged between the two, yet they continued to stick together as they moved along. After running continuously for a full hour, they finally caught sight of a cave and entered without hesitation.

From the state of the cave entrance that was overgrown with vegetation, it was clear that the cave had been abandoned for a while. However, the first thing that the duo did was still to make sure there were no wild beasts within.

It was always better to be safe than sorry.

After all, some wild beasts could prove to be even more dangerous than the demons chasing after them!

Luckily for them, this time the cave was truly empty.

On top of that, the cave was deep enough, meaning that it was difficult for anyone to spot them from the outside.

"Let us rest here for tonight," Hu Shenwei spoke, finally breaking the silence between the two. "It is not good to go too far on our own. Apart from us, there are two other teams from the assault party. We should try to regroup with them if possible. Once we grouped up, the demons from before would no longer be as big of a threat!"

"Okay," Lu Tianzi nodded as he settled into a corner.

At this moment, Hu Shenwei actually pulled out a piping hot meat bun and a waterbag made of animal skin, starting to munch away in a bid to recover his energy.

Lu Tianzi similarly took out a piece of meat jerky to chew on, but his eyes were gleaming with surprise as he looked at the items in Hu Shenwei's hands.

The waterbag was fine, but in such a place, where would he suddenly get that hot meat bun from?

Lu Tianzi knew that there was only one way for Hu Shenwei to do so, and that was by using a spatial ring!

Spatial rings contained an independent space within them, allowing martial artists to store items and carry them around easily. With a mere trace of their perception, they would be able to easily access these items wherever they were, bringing unparalleled convenience!

There were also many different grades of spatial rings, according to the size of the space within.

Some spatial rings contained a space the size of a small box, while others could be as large as a house!

However, since anything pertaining to space was difficult to grasp, spatial rings were extremely rare. Even the lowest graded spatial ring could still be considered as a precious treasure!

Even if they had the money, spatial rings were not items that were easy for most martial artist to get their hands on.

Still, Hu Shenwei was actually able to lay his hands on one.

As expected of the son of Hu Yuanbo, Lord of Ivory Rock City!
